SIXT Rent a Car Houston Downtown

Bait & Switch? Arrived to pick up my car and was told it wasn't clean. They were happy to offer me a upgrade... for $80. Most rental agencies I deal with are happy to offer me a free upgrade if they don't have a vehicle in my class ready to go. Instead, I had to wait 30 minutes while they cleaned a car for me. Good thing I specified my pick-up time on my reservation. Clearly that meant nothing.

First Lady we dealt with was very rude. She told us we would be charged an extra day for showing up an hour and a half early which must be their policy. We waited til the time we up but had to shoot off so came back the next day. Like other reviews have stated they charge you based on your flights. This is not listed anywhere and they are located downtown so I couldn’t quite understand why the flights had to coincide. I also got charged extra for picking up the car a day later but that must just have been their policy. Second Lady was quite rude at first but then ended up being nice when we matched her energy. She also changed our car to a nicer car which was at least nice hence the 2 stars. We did however have to pay an extra day because of our flights even though I booked for the day before (extra 56 usd) I get the front desk people don’t make the policy but they really didn’t want to be there or did not have much empathy. Was not until we really seemed quite frustrated she changed up a bit which was at least nice. I’m not one to be a Karen and I’m trying to see it in a fair way but I would caution people with booking through the downtown location. I have seen a lot of the 1 star reviews they have replied to but seem to not have done anything about them. I personally wouldn’t use them again as I had a much better experience with budget rentals when I was in LA as an example.

I loved SixT car rental. From the get go i received a call to remind and let me know that they were ready for my pickup. When I arrived I was greeted and helped by Hannan. She was super nice and friendly. She offered different options and ultimately helped me with what I was happy with. Car was amazing nice, clean and with no problems. At the time of return Deshaun I belive was her name was also very nice and helpful. She inspected the car and made sure everything was good and completed my return. I will for sure come back the next time I need a rental. It was fast easy and pain free. Thank you ladies for making it a great experience.

I had an extremely frustrating experience with SIXT at the Houston location 383 Ruthven Street, Houston, TX 77002. I arrived two hours early for my reservation and was told that all cars were booked. The only vehicle they claimed to have available was a Hyundai Santa Cruz (TX-TWB7127). From the moment I got into the car, it reeked of nicotine and had multiple scratches all over it. The smell was overwhelming. I immediately asked for an exchange and was told there was nothing they could do. I had the car for five days, and by day two the nicotine smell was so strong it was giving me headaches and nausea. I called SIXT for help and was advised to return to the pickup location to request an exchange again. When I returned after 48 hours, there were multiple cars visibly available, yet once again I was told they couldn’t help me. I asked to be switched into my originally reserved car (a Nissan Versa), but they refused. Instead, they tried to upsell me to a higher class, which would have added over $200 to my rental. Even worse, when they offered to keep me in the same class, they still insisted I pay for all five days, even though I would only be using the replacement vehicle for the remaining three days. I felt completely stuck and taken advantage of. So I ended up stuck for the full five days with a car that smelled so bad it made me physically ill — a car that should not even be rentable. Especially ironic considering SIXT charges customers hundreds of dollars if a car smells like smoke upon return. This entire experience was a headache from start to finish. The staff repeatedly said their “hands were tied,” which begs the question: what is the point of having personnel or extra vehicles if no one can actually help the customer? I will not be renting from SIXT again and strongly caution others.

Pre-reserved and pre-paid a rental car more than a week in advance. When I arrived to pick it up, they neither had the car nor anything similar available. Instead, I was offered a smaller car at a higher price. Extremely disappointing service and very poor handling of a confirmed reservation. I have honestly never experienced such unprofessional and careless customer service before.
